Workforce Development

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation has funded workforce development through grants received from the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance to train, equip, and transport high school students to internships with local businesses. We have provided job readiness training and placement into paid work experiences for both in and out of school youth in partnership with the Wicomico County Board of Education and Telamon Corporation. The Chamber Foundation was selected to provide interview preparation, employer recruitment, and placement services for fifty youth who were in the Foster Care Program. from March 2009 through June 2010. A total of 14 youth were interviewed for paid work experiences and 13 of those youth were placed into paid work experiences. We have also conducted a construction skills training program and recently completed the initial drywall and painting pre apprenticeship training course which has been approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission as an authorized vendor for Workforce Investment Training. The Chamber Foundation was just recently approved as a training provider for the Maryland Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) and is in the process of coordinating skills training for their customers
