Youth Employment Services

In School Youth Summer Employment Program

For the past three years the Salisbury Chamber Foundation has partnered with the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance and the Wicomico County Board of Education Parkside Career and Technology Center to provide job readiness training, life skills training, and summer employment opportunities for program participants. 

For 2009 a total of sixteen (16 students) participated in workshops covering Individual Goal Setting, Workplace Conflict Resolution, Ethics, and Behavior, Customer Service, Financial Management (budgeting, financial goal setting, introduction to banking and checking accounts), and Job Applications and Interviewing Tips. 

The students were enrolled in Criminal Justice, Masonry, Health Occupations, Culinary Arts, Horticulture, and Early Childhood Education programs at Parkside Career and Technology. 

Participating employers for 2009 were Salisbury Urban Ministries, Salisbury University Catering and Horticulture Departments, Telamon Corporation, Fruitland Police Department, Delmarva Homes, Deaf Independent Living Association, Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children, Market Street Inn, Crown Sports Center, and Habitat for Humanity Resale Store.

Out of School Youth Summer Employment Program

For the past two years the Salisbury Chamber Foundation has partnered with the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance and Telamon Corporation to provide job readiness training, life skills training, and summer employment opportunities for program participants. 

For 2009 a total of eighteen (18 students) participated in workshops covering individual Goal Setting, Workplace Conflict Resolution, Ethics, and Behavior, Customer Service, and Job Applications and Interviewing Tips. 

Participating employers for 2009 were Shore-Up, Hermon Health Mart Pharmacy, Pohanka, Accurate Optical, Goodwill Industries Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children, Salvation Army, and Bay Shore Services.

Foster Care Youth Employment Program

This year the Salisbury Chamber Foundation has partnered with the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance to provide employer recruitment and placement opportunities for youth ages 16 to 21 who are in the Foster Care Program. 

To date a total of ten (10) youth have been interviewed and placed into employment opportunities. 

Participating employers in this program are Lakeside Assisted Living, Poplar Hill Mansion, Shore Transit, Lower Shore Child Care Resources Center, Kings Kid Academy, and Delmarva Homes.

Stimulus Funds for Youth Summer Employment Program

In 2009 the Salisbury Chamber Foundation partnered with the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance and Telamon Corporation to provide job readiness training, life skills training, and summer employment opportunities for program participants from both the in school and out of school populations. 

A total of forty six (46) youth participated in workshops covering individual Goal Setting; Workplace Conflict Resolution, Ethics, and Behavior; Customer Service; and Job Applications and Interviewing Tips. 

Participating employers in this program were Salisbury Urban Ministries, Delmarva Homes, Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children, Shore-Up, Wicomico County Department of Social Services, Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, Wor-Wic Maintenance Department, Lower Shore Workforce Alliance, Goodwill Industries, YMCA, Wicomico Library, Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, Mallard Landing, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Junior Achievement, Pohanka, and Wicomico Heating and Air.
