2010 Summer Youth Program
On March 24, 2010 the SACC Foundation coordinated a Career Day for the Parkside In School Youth Summer Employment Program students enrolled in the program
Karen Goldman, Director of the Lower Shore Child Care Resource Center discussed a Career in Child Care. She reviewed a typical day and discussed child care center and family child care operations. She reviewed and discussed career ladder and average salaries for the child care filed. She also discussed becoming a family child care provider and the advantages of operating a business out of your home. She finished her discussion by reviewing professional development requirements (credentialing) and grant opportunities for training.
Rebecca Rosing-Johnson, Manager of Horticulture and Grounds at Salisbury University discussed careers in Horticulture, Landscaping, and Athletic Field Maintenance. She reviewed each option and described the basic skills and knowledge required for employment. She discussed salary levels and advancement opportunities that are offered at Salisbury University for her employees.
Diane Johnson from the Delmarva Education Foundation discussed how to research and identify potential scholarship opportunities for both two and four year schools. She detailed the many local scholarship opportunities that are available and provided extensive reference materials and information.
